Backstage at the Fillmore

Last fall I caught up with an old friend, Elvis Perkins, at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco. He was the opening act for the Cold War Kids. Since then he’s been touring nonstop. He opened for My Morning Jacket during their three night, New Year’s Eve run at the Fillmore – the picture above was taken backstage by his rightfully proud brother, Osgood. And then off to Europe to start things off for Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah. He’s heading to Bonnaroo this spring. If you have a chance to see him live, do it.
And if you can’t catch him live, be sure to give his album, Ash Wednesday, a listen (it’s been well received on iTunes and Yahoo). A dreamy melancholy with echoes of loss. But if you’ve seen him perform live (or just watched Osgood take in another one of his younger brother’s shows) you’ll understand why you can’t help but hear notes of optimism and love. I’m in awe.
EDIT: Thanks to AllCrazyStyle I just discovered that Elvis will be back in SF headlining Cafe Du Nord on March 25th.
